The tenth anniversary of Take Your Dog to Work Day is coming up on Friday, June 26th.   Pet Sitters International is again sponsoring this annual event.  The special day was established to encourage pet adoptions and to celebrate the companionship and joy of dog ownership.
Thinking of participating?  To make this special day a success, read these tips from from TakeYourDog.com:

  • Check with your office – is anybody allergic, afraid of or opposed to bringing your dog to work for this day?
  • Puppy-proof your work space – watch for poisonous plants, check for dangerous wires, edibles, etc.  Keep out of dogs reach.
  • Have doggie cleaned up before the office debut – shots up to date.  No sick pets.  Doggie too shy or aggressive?  Rethink bringing them…maybe bring a favorite picture of your pooch instead.
  • Prepare a doggie bag  - food, treats, bowls, toys, leash, clean-up bags and pet safe disinfectants (in case).  Bring a portable kennel if you are in and out of your workspace.
  • Exercise your dog some before coming to the office so he will be ready for a little nap.
  • Create a nice space either in a corner or under your desk.
  • Have an ID on your pet just in case.
  • Make sure others do not feed your dog too many unfamiliar treats to prevent tummy problems.
  • Plan feeding times and place and remember to take doggie outside for relief after eating and excitement.
  • Don’t force co-workers to interact with your dog.  It will be obvious who the dog lovers are and are not.
  • Have an exit strategy – If your dog becomes agitated or boisterous, have a plan.
  • No matter what, do not leave your pet alone in a vehicle while at work or anywhere
  • Most importantly, have fun, relax and remember to mark the first Friday after Fathers day, June 26th.
